The Lindsey House

Add to plan Remove from plan

This house was built by John Lindsey and is proof Laurel prospered from indirect connections to timber. Mr. Lindsey invented the Lindsey Eight-Wheeled Wagon which revolutionized the timber industry. In 1900, Lindsey Wagon Factory was the largest factory under one roof in Mississippi. The raw materials entered the factory at one end and the finished wagon emerged at the other end, a form of the assembly line to be utilized years later by Henry Ford. The house is in the Jeffersonian Revival style, named for Thomas Jefferson's use of large and small classical columns on buildings he designed at The University of Virginia.
