The Museum opened in 1923 as a memorial to Lauren Eastman Rogers, the only son and grandson of one of Laurel's founding families. The structure, designed by New Orleans architect Rathbone DeBuys, is Georgian Revival which is characterized by symmetry with the middle part usually larger and more forward. It has paired columns locally made by Laurel Machine & Foundry.
